Students in Economics for Business should take a look at the webpage below, especially Prof PJ Drudy’s chapter, ‘What is progress and how should it be measured’ (pdf). The other papers look fascinating also. The debate on what consititutes an appropriate measure of ‘progress’ rather than output, as we currently measure growth (with GDP, etc) is raging, with high level contributions being made by Joe Stiglitz and others.
